The most extensive archive of the world’s oldest living culture.

CAAMA Archive

‘If an Elder is decided by the significance of the knowledge they hold, then the CAAMA archive is like an Elder of our community, not just for one, but for all central Australian communities.’

Trisha Morton-Thomas, CAAMA alumni, film-maker

The CAAMA Collection is an internationally significant archive. It is the oldest and most extensive archive of Central Australian Aboriginal cultural content in the world and a vital record of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages, stories and music.

In contrast to other historical ethnographic archives, the significance of the CAAMA Collection comes in part from the fact that its content is created by Aboriginal people and reflects an Aboriginal viewpoint. It is an archive of immense and inestimable cultural significance to all Central Australian Aboriginal communities, and to the nation as a whole.

The CAAMA Collection contains the output of CAAMA since before its formal inception, housing arguably Australia’s largest and oldest library of culturally significant recordings.
