The Olkola Knowledge Centre - looking towards local research and biodiversity

17th Mar 2021

A new Knowledge Centre to be built on Olkola country in central Cape York has been supported by the Queensland Government in a new round of recently announced funding as part of the Growing Indigenous Tourism Queensland scheme.

The centre will provide not only a base to undertake biodiversity and landcare research work, but also provide cultural tourism options led by local Olkola people.

CAAMA’s Philippe Perez spoke to both Olkola Aboriginal Corporation CEO Debbie Ross-Symonds and Dr Hannah Robertson, lecturer in construction management at the Faculty of Architecture, Building & Planning, University of Melbourne about the centre and the process of collaborating, designing and building the centre.
