National Palliative Care Week is an annual event organised by Palliative Care Australia and supported by the Department of Health to raise awareness and understanding about palliative care in the Australian community.
Dr Christine Sanderson, who is a Specialist in Palliative Medicine and works at the Alice Springs Palliative Care Facility, speaks with CAAMA's Investigative journalist Josef Egger on the importance of her work.
Over the years she has been involved in a wide range of health research, including studies on pain and delirium, and on bereavement and social supports in palliative care.
She says that the Alice Springs Palliative Care Facility also advocates for a culturally appropriate space for First Nations people.
The theme of this years Palliative Care Week is "Palliative Care… It's more than you think"
