Now that the borders are open to Uluru.....

The Mutitjulu community in the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park, has called for the suspension of flights and the closure of the local airport ahead of the planned return of flights from Victoria and New South Wales from 1 August.

The Mutitjulu Community Aboriginal Corporation has made the request in letters to NT Chief Minister Michael Gunner and the park’s board of management, and informed the federal Minister for Indigenous Australians, Ken Wyatt.

MCAC is concerned that Mutitjulu residents use the nearby tourist resort at Yulara for shopping and tourists from COVID-19 hotspots could spread the virus to vulnerable residents of the park.

Visitors to the park have ignored self-quarantine rules, reinforcing the need for travellers to undertake mandatory supervised quarantine before arriving in Yulara.
