Every vote counts - Aboriginal People could change the NT Election

22nd Jul 2020

Historically, Aboriginal people were not allowed to vote until 1962, but even then they were not allowed to own property, go into bars or marry without permission.

Vanessa Farrelly, a southern Arrernte woman and Northern Territory Seed Mob Campaigner, is urging Aboriginal people in the Territory, to enroll to vote at the next election, saying that it could change Territory politics.

Ms Farrelly talks about the challenges Aboriginal people face at election time, saying many have been excluded in past elections and that the government needs to be held accountable.

Ms Farrelly also announced that the Seed Mob are running a TikTok challenge, encouraging the mob to enroll and vote. The challenge has a cash prize of $1,000.
