Beetaloo Basin traditional owners are fighting to retain water, land and sacred sites.....

With the Northern Territory and federal governments promoting the proposed gas field at Beetaloo Basin in the Top End as an important part of their post-COVID-19 economic recovery plans.. local people are working towards greater environmental protection for the region.

The Beetaloo Basin… about 500 kilometres south-east of Darwin is rich in natural gas… but the area is also culturally significant to the local Traditional Owners that inhabit the lands.

Traditional owner Janey Dixon says her people have voted to establish a new body to negotiate with gas companies for greater environmental protection and the safeguarding of their sacred sites.
