A Melbourne based academic who works with young first Nations Australians in the field of astrophysics… says indigenous science and knowledge is inherently valuable …and doesn’t need to be validated by western science.

Associate Professor of Indigenous Astronomy & Science in the School of Physics at the University of Melbourne… Dr Duane Hamacher works closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia to increase Indigenous representation in the astronomical and space sciences in Australia.

While astrophysicists are often seen as some of the most intelligent people on earth, Dr Hamacher says indigenous knowledge is being integrated into all of the courses offered by the Faculty of Science at Melbourne University.
