A new report into the financial position of Australia’s First Nations peoples, has revealed a large number are experiencing financial exclusion.
In late May 2019 the First Nations Foundation, the Centre for Social Impact and the National Australian Bank released a report exploring the financial position of first nation’s peoples.
A total of 620 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from remote, regional and urban areas took part in either online surveys or in face to face meetings.
CEO of First Nations Foundation, Amanda Young said the findings of the report are concerning, with 75% of the respondents experienced trouble dealing with financial services in the last 12 months.
Ms Young said there are three areas that need to change including; growing financial literacy, improving financial services such as banking and superannuation, and greater Government support for the First Nations peoples.
