Malardirri McCarthy on ABC shortwave services and the Cashless Debit Card

27th Mar 2019

Northern Territory Labor Senator Malarndirri McCarthy has urged the ABC to reconsider its decision to stop its shortwave transmission into the Northern Territory.

Senator McCarthy told CAAMA Radio the lack of a shortwave service from the ABC in remote areas is concerning, and along with fellow Northern Territory Labor politicians Luke Gosling and Warren Snowden, she has written to Ita Buttrose the new chair of the ABC calling for a switch back to shortwave radio so that communities and travellers have access to vital emergency information.

She also speaks here about the recent announcement by the Morrison Coalition Government that the Cashless Debit Card is planned to be expanded to the NT and other communities where income managements is in place.

Senator McCarthy speaks with CAAMA's Philippe Perez.
