Calls for a National Commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children

28th Oct 2019

In a bid to help improve the lives of First Nations kids more than 80 organisations and commissioners are calling for the establishment of a national commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

The Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care, SNAICC, is the peak body for First Nations children and heading up the push to appoint a national commissioner position.

Other organisations involved include Family Matters and ACOSS, but support has also come from the two existing Indigenous children’s commissioners in Victoria and South Australia.

CAAMA Radio spoke with Richard Weston CEO of SNAICC to discuss why there needs to be a National Commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
