Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders across the nation are celebrating an important victory at the weekend with acknowledgement of the Anangu’s request to close the climb at Uluru finally implemented in recognition of the cultural significance of the site.

In 2017 the permanent closure of the climb was announced with Anangu traditional owners labeling it culturally disrespectful and dangerous.

Over the years almost 40 people have died trying to make the journey with many more injured.
