A Western Australian Aboriginal organisation has won a $20 million contract to provide ongoing maintenance for a rail network owned by mining giant Rio Tinto.
Yurra is an Aboriginal contracting organisation which was awarded a five year contract to maintain Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore Pilbara rail network.
Rio Tinto currently holds an Indigenous Land use Agreement with the Yinjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation.
CAAMA Radio spoke with Michael Woodley the founding Director of Yurra and CEO of the Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation, which is the majority owner of Yurra.
Mr Woodley told CAAMA Radio the work is expected to provide around 20 full-time jobs for local Aboriginal people.
