Last week the Luritja remote community outstation of Lilla celebrated the opening of a new additional classroom of their local school. The Watarrka School services three homeland communities: Upanyali, Wanmara and Lilla.
It also provides activities for other schools in the Watarrka region through the annual Lilla Sports and Storytelling festival held at the end of July.
It was the work of the Watarrka Foundation, which facilitates community projects between local traditional owners in the region, local school children and school students in urban areas.
Reg Ramsden is the founder of the Foundation and was there to see the new school open. He spoke to CAAMA's Philippe Perez about the importance of building strong school communities.
