Stephen Atkinson Chairperson of the Barngarla Language Advisory Committee says using simple everyday phrases is key to bringing the language back and he stresses the importance of reclaiming their heritage language.

The National Health and Medical Research Council awarded more than $1.1 million to the University of Adelaide and the South Australian Health Medical Research Institute to launch a world first study into the impacts of reviving traditional languages.

Mr Atkinson says despite the reclamation of the Barngarla language being in the early stages people are already feeling profound impacts.
