A recognised leader in the field of Aboriginal child and family welfare in Australia says people in the Northern Territory are the repository of culture for the nation and any outcomes from the Royal commission into Youth Detention must play a significant role in protecting and preserving this culture.
Professor Muriel Bamblett , a Yorta Yorta and Dja Dja Wurrung woman who is the CEO of the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency was a Board Member on the NT Board of Inquiry into the Child Protection System in 2009.
Prof Bamblett says the Northern Territory is in a unique position and all Aboriignal Australians should recognise it has a very strong cultural base that needs to be protected into the future...
Speaking on CAAMA Radio Professor Bamblett shared her ongoing concern for the rapidly growing numbers of Aborignal children being removed from their families country and culture.
