 Thousands of people have travelled to the the remote Northern territory community of Kalkaringi to remember and acknowledge  the stand off  made  by   Vincent Lingiari and other community members against the Vestey managed Wave Hill  cattle station..The  walk off which is now acknowledged as the birth of the land rights movement within Australia.

Aboriginal Elder and Western australian Labor Senator  Pat Dodson says  the  50 th anniversary of the  walk off is  also a strong reminder of the  current working conditions for many Aboriignal people.

Greens leader Victorian Senator  Richard Di Natale spoke of the anger and  disappointment that Aborignal people still feel today.

Federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten  who also  attended the celebration told CAAMA Radio   a new Labor committee will discuss issues around a treaty !
