NRL Round 22, which happened over the weekend was dedicated to Closing the Gap…the largest campaign to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health
For the third year in a row the National Rugby League have made round 22 Close the Gap Round, with an aim to highlight the need to focus on key issues including indigenous health, education, employment and life expectancy.
A number of events were staged to promote the Close the Gap Campaign within the Close the gap round, which ran from the 5th to the 8th of August, and Indigenous jerseys were worn by all players.
Former rugby league fullback David Peachey…who played most of his NRL career with the cronulla sutherland sharks…says he believes it is very important to be holding events and campaigns like the Close the Gap round event.
Nerida Currey caught up with Mr Peachey before the round…
