While AFL appears to be getting back to normal in the Centre – Mayor Matt Paterson says “we can all agree that there’s been a lack of investment for many years into remote communities.”

The recent stand off between the Alice Springs Town Council and the AFLNT has ended following a meeting between Mparntwe / Alice Springs Mayor Matt Paterson and AFL CEO, Gillon McLachlan.

The Town Council had banned the Community Football competition from Traeger Park prompting AFLNT to redraw its fixture, which council did not approve so council then banned all football from Traeger Park. AFLNT then threatened to withdraw the Melbourne Demons V GWS Giants Game from Alice Springs.

Alice Springs Mayor MATT PATERSON flew to Melbourne last week to meet with AFL executives, the outcome of the meeting sees footy back at Traeger Park and the Melbourne Demons game in Alice back on the fixture.

Mayor Patterson says he thinks it’s a good deal for Alice Springs.
