Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are being warned about online scams that promise proof of COVID vaccination certificates in exchange for cash or credit card details.

Recent media reports say that these proof of vaccination certificates have been offered on black market web forums, with experts saying it can only take minutes to create one

The Australian Digital Health Agency is also warning consumers that personal health information is a valuable commodity on the black market and that once that information is lost, it will be difficult to regain.

Creating or using a fake vaccination certificate is also illegal.

Gunggari and Gubbi Gubbi man and consumer advocate spokesperson from the Australian Digital Health Agency Steve Renouf spoke to CAAMA’s Philippe Perez about the correct ways to get your certificate and how to not be scammed (audio below).

Those in the NT can get their proof of vaccination certificate either via my.gov.au, through My Health Record, or by speaking to your local GP or local Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.
