University Students from Boston Join Up with CAAMA

Just returning from five days and four nights in the outback put my mind in a sort of fog when we entered the CAAMA Radio office doors. Very quickly did my classmates and I learn that it wasn’t going to be a normal boring studio tour. We were able to learn from the second largest broadcast area in Australia with a lot of enthusiasm from the station manager, digital media producer and seventeen year old radio host star.

As we looked deeper into aboriginal culture and media a great opportunity was offered to us. Why not collaborate with CAAMA instead of just listening from them? Our trusty Professor Marcus Breen, from Northeastern University Communications Department, sure did have a smile on his face when he heard this.

Check out the news piece that Ella, Ali and I put together for the station about our experiences here in Australia. Also, keep your eyes and ears open for the sounds of Daria, Jill, Mike and Matt who spoke with Nerida about the differences between the United States and Australian culture.

Stiff Gins launch their new album Wind & Water

Stiff Gins Nardi Simpson and Kaleena Briggs have much to celebrate they are on the verge of their anticipated third album release.

They have travelled the world, received prestigious awards, and created a loyal fan base with their heartsongs and emotive performances. They’ve performed for troops in the Middle East and remote communities in Australia, and developed a musical friendship that has transformed them both. Now, with their new album Wind & Water, they have perfected a sound that honours the raw power of their voices and their history while leading them firmly into the future of Australian music.

Wind & Water is also the debut release for Indigenous owned and run label Gadigal Music, created to present the best Indigenous contemporary music from across Australia. With Stiff Gins having just signed a publishing deal with Sandcastle Music, 2011 is looking like their most powerful year yet.

Stiff Gins launch their new album Wind & Water at Notes in Sydney on March 5, and will follow with a national tour. The album is out through Gadigal Music and MGM on March 11.
