Captained by the last Aborigine to wear the baggy green, a group of Australian cricketing legends tested their skills against some of Australia’s best indigenous players in Alice Springs last night.

Retired fast bowler Jason Gillespie, with the help of fellow all-stars Matthew Elliot, Greg Matthews and Len Pascoe,  open the 17th Lord’s Taverners Imparja Cup on Sunday night, before conducting a clinic for local schools at Traeger Park today.

For the first time, a true interstate cricket competition between women will take place.

Queensland will again be the team to beat in this year’s elite men’s division as they attempt to win their third straight Imparja Cup.

More than 450 people are expected to converge on Alice Springs for the event and 32 teams are registered to compete.
