A Sydney based academic whose  research has focussed on  how government decisions affect  First Nations Australians says despite having to  follow party lines Aboriginal  candidates can and do make a significant difference if they are elected.

Peak Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander bodies  from across the country  came together in Melbourne on Monday  to find ways better ways  of closing the  delivery gap  for  Aboriginal and TSI services.

A Western Australian Aboriginal organisation has won a $20 million contract to provide ongoing maintenance for a rail network owned by mining giant Rio Tinto.
