University transition services for the community of Lockhart River through 'Yarning Up'

9th Oct 2018

The remote community of Lockhart River located on the east coast of Queensland’s Cape York – was recently visited by a number of corporate representatives & school principals to talk to young students about to graduate into tertiary education.

The aim of the visit was to encourage parents tro connect with principals and discuss futures and give business mentoring and entrepreneurial support to those who have bright ideas.

It’s all part of a program called Yarning Up run by Bond University which is based on the Gold Coast. Philippe Perez spoke to Wiradjuri woman & Bond University’s Indigenous Cultural Support Officer Narelle Urquart asked her about the program and what her job entails as a indigenous leader at the university.
