The call for a National Indigenous Arts & Cultural Authority

The Federal Government's arts funding and advisory body The Australia Council are hoping to establish a National Indigenous Arts & Cultural Authority. The body will assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to maintain their creative expressions in all kinds of art through governance and legal framework.

The authority has been an idea since the 70s but has gained momentum recently with the Australia Council holding forums around the country to see how the authority should look like. The Alice Springs session happening later today.

Lydia Miller is a Kuku Yalanji woman & the Australia Council’s Executive Director for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts. Shewill be coordinating today’s forum in Alice Springs. She is speaking here with CAAMA’s Philippe Perez.
