Eight Alice Springs students have recently graduated with a Certificate III in the Arrernte Language offered at a local Alice Springs school.
The Alice Springs Language Centre offered the Certificate for the first time in 2018. The course included subjects that look at speaking Arrernte in the workplace, how to write narratives and interviewing people in Arrernte.
Students also travelled to Canberra to research Arrernte family connections at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Affairs as part of their studies.
Graduates Crystal Rose Furber Swan, Jayhannah Trindorfer along with Arrernte teacher Jenette McCormack & Alice Springs Language Centre principal Susan Moore spoke to CAAMA's Philippe Perez about the experience of learning Arrernte language & culture.
