Last week, the Commonwealth Government issued its response to the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory. It has responded to 28 recommendations which it believes applies to them. This is out of 226 recommendations that the Royal Commission handed down.
The response has been criticised as weak from Labor and the NT Government have expressed disappointment at the lack of funding promised.
Criticism has comes from outside parliaments however, and Larrakia woman & Senior Lawyer at the Human Rights Law Centre Shahleena Musk says she is concerned at the lack of leadership shown in the response by the Commonwealth.
