Linda Burney - Scott Morrison Has A Lot To Prove Regarding First Nations Issues

Updated: 28/08/2018

Last week was a disastrous week for  the Federal Liberal Party. Internal disruptions saw a new Prime Minister: Scott Morrison. He was sworn in last  Friday.

But does a new Prime Minister mean any new changes for First Nations people? A new cabinet reshuffle over the weekend saw Nigel Scullion retain his portfolio of Indigenous Affairs, and Ken Wyatt will continue to serve as the Minister for Indigenous Health. But a newly created position of Special Envoy on Indigenous Affairs has been offered to former Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

Mr Abbott is yet to accept the appointment, and it has been reported that he is considering what impact he will have in the role.

Meanwhile Labor have been on the attack and ensuring the public know Mr Morrison leads an unstable government. Philippe Perez spoke to Wiradjuri woman and Labor MP for the federal seat of Burton Linda Burney about what Mr Morrison’s leadership will mean for First Nations people.
