The Northern Territory Gunner Government has written to the Alice Springs Town Council, asking to change ownership of the ANZAC Precinct site to continue development of the National Aboriginal Art Gallery.
In a statement, the member for Braitling Dale Wakefield & Minister for Tourism & Culture Lauren Moss say it is critical that the precinct is treated as a single site with a single owner.
The letter outlines to the Alice Springs Town Council that the Gunner Government does not wish to discuss alternative sites mentioning that comprehensive community consultation has already been undertaken.
However some members of the Arrente community have been vocal about the gallery being located at ANZAC Hill precinct recently, and oppose the development, stating the gallery should be built south of the Heavitree Gap.
Despite being adamant the ANZAC Hill precinct will be the site for the gallery Minister for Tourism & Culture Lauren Moss told CAAMA Radio that the government will continue to listen to Arrernte people. She speaks here to Philippe Perez about the National Aboriginal Art Gallery along with other topics, including a new digital strategy for Central Australia & tourism potential for the community of Mutitjulu.
