Gary Higgins: Tennant Creek Incident Response Was Not Good Enough

14th Mar 2018

The Northern Territory CLP Opposition Leader Gary Higgins has criticised the the Gunner Labor Government’s response to recent alcohol-fuel incidents at Tennant Creek.

In late February a two year old toddler was allegedly raped by a 24-year-old man while another man died in an alleged assault in the same residence in the town.

Mr Higgins says that the response from Territory Families Minister Dale Wakefield to meet with the community in Tennant Creek a week after the incident along was not good enough.

He also proposes that part of the problem is due to a policy outlook that focuses mainly within the Darwin region. He says the upcoming budget at the NT Government should prioritise a larger percentage of government spending towards remote communities below the Berrimah Line.
