Yirara College providing unique pathways to employment.

15th Mar 2017

Young Aboriginal people attending a boarding school in Alice Springs are being offered a creative and practical pathway to future employment in the mining industry.

Over the past month students at Yirara College in Alice Springs have been provided with a virtual experience of what it’s like to operate a Caterpillar 793D mining truck after being loaned a simulator from engineering company Thiess.

Roger Ashcroft, Principle of Yirara College said the training is valuable as it is providing students with a possible pathway to future employment.

Yirara College students Mishai Wollagrang and Lucasta O'Keefe told CAAMA Radio they are enjoying the training and could see themselves driving mining trucks in the future.
