Palm Island Mayor Alf Lacey describes meeting as "groundbreaking"

14th Mar 2017

Aboriginal and  Torres Strait Islander leaders from across  Queensland  have met in Cairns for the  first indigenous-themed Cabinet meeting.

Mayors  and representatives from every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander shire council across Queensland met  with state government ministers in what Palm Island Mayor Alf Lacey has described as "tremendous and certainly groundbreaking".

Speaking on CAAMA Radio Cr. Lacey said the meeting  had created history  because for the first time they were able to talk directly to the main people- rather than dealing with the middle man... something  which in the past had  got them nowhere !
