Namatjira’s Derek Lynch visits Ntaria RIBS

Derek Lynch, one of the two main actors in the Big Hart production of Namatjira dropped
into the Ntaria RIBS studio on Wednesday during it’s weekly broadcast. Born in Alice Springs, he partly grew up in town and in Aputula. It was a special occasion for Derek being in Central Australia and performing for his family and friends in the audience.

Wednesday night was also a big night for the production and Ntaria, as it was the first time Namatjira had been staged at the home of the famous artist Albert Namatjira.

Alukra 25th Birthday celebrations 15.05.2012

Today we went out to Alukura do a live broadcast for celebrations of their 25th Birthday. Alukura is a Aboriginal Health clinic for Indigenous Women. Pam Reilly, Thecla Brogan and Mikaela Simpson were all there to check it out. Here are some of the photos from todays excitment!

Local Support for the RIBS Radio Programs.

Legendary as some of the busiest shows broadcasting through CAAMA, ( Ntaria for example usually has over 20 requests per show) … with the phone often running red hot it’s important for the broadcaster, & the broadcast, that there is good support to help out and so the radio program can be as good as it can be …family plays a very big part in how this happens , so from Ltyentye Apurte to Elliot to from Utju to Alpurrurulam .. good family & friend support helps the RIBS Broadcasters do a really great job…

The Countries peak Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representative body says it is tired of seeing a constant roll out of Government funding to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people when previous investments have failed to show results.

Aboriginal rights campaigner Michael Anderson has spoken out in defence of the Toomelah community following media speculation that residents could be facing some form of Government intervention.

CAAMA News Team: Mikaela Simpson, Nerida Currey, Paul Wiles,

The Gillard Labor Government has committed more than 3. Billion dollars  over 10 years towards implementing Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory as part of a 5.2 billion dollar national package to help close the gap nationally on Aboriginal disadvantage.

The Australian Greens say they will vote ‘No’ if the Government brings on the Strong Futures Legislation in the Senate to extend and expand the NT Intervention.

Jenny Macklin proud of Budget commitment to Aboriginal people.

The Federal Minister for Indigenous Affairs  Jenny Macklin  says money  delivered  in this years  Budget is  a very long term committment  by the Labor government to Aboriginal people….  especially thiose living in  regional and remote parts of the Northern Territory.

Ms Macklin  says  people are likely to see an immediate impact  in the  health area  as  Aborignal health services  across the Territory  are  strengthened ….. allowing  them to  provide   better  delivery of services to families and children.

Aboriginal PhD student Dr Odette Best speaks on Womens Business

Dr Odette Best became the first Aboriginal person to graduate with a PhD from the Universtiy of Sourthern Queensland when she recieved her Doctorate in Nursing…after six years of study.

She speaks to Mikaela Simpson on Womens Business, to share her story.

Regional Arts Australia is pleased to call for nominations for the 2012 Awards program to be presented at the Regional Arts Australia National conference in Goolwa, South Australia from the 18th of October through to the 21st of October 2012.

The RAA Awards program acknowledges the invaluable contribution volunteer leaders make to the cultural life of their local communities. Nominations are called from regionally-based arts and cultural volunteer leaders whose work has inspired and supported arts development.
