Since beginning at the age of five, multi-talented brothers, Delson and Boyd Stokes, known today as ‘The Yabu Band’, have created a powerful, unique sound aptly described as Desert Rock/Reggae. The brothers are originally from Kalgoorlie, the Goldfields town bordered by the Western Desert from where they draw their heritage, culture and inspiration. ‘Yabu’ means Rock/Gold in their language, Wongatha.

Yabu is more than just an Indigenous band; they provide a message through song, a vehicle of inspiration that has inspired children through to adults to achieve all that they can. They believe there is nothing more important than encouraging today’s youth to have self-worth and chase one’s dreams.

Danille Talks to Gman on Brekky

BUSH LAW will be launched on 27th November at 6:30pm at Araluen Cinema. The film will be screened, followed by a facilitated expert panel discussion and then an open forum on the topic.

The film will not be presented as holding all the answers, but rather a seed for mutually empowered discussion on how Aboriginal and mainstream law can work together in effectively reducing crime in the NT Aboriginal population, hence the panel and forum following.

The panel will be comprised of a mixture of Indigenous leaders representing different tribes in Central Australia, Indigenous people who have experienced both legal systems in operation and can provide a birds eye view on their effectiveness or otherwise in addressing crime, representatives from Central Australian Aboriginal Legal Aid Service and former Alice Springs Magistrate Michael Ward, who will share his experience of taking Aboriginal law into consideration in granting bail and sentencing.

How can some Australian media, especially in Alice Springs continue to focus & speculate on financial accountability for Aboriginal Organisations while claiming to wave the banner of pushing people off supposed welfare mentality
