  • Eight nations of Aboriginal people in the  Top End  of the Northern Territory have rejected the Federal Governments Stronger Futures legislation in a strongly worded statement calling for a partnership based on self determination.
  • A senior policy advisor with the the Northern Territory Chief Ministers Department has questioned claims that Aboriginal people previously ran local Government organisations and says most were predominantly managed by CEO’s.

Safe & Sober Support Service making a difference in Alice Springs

Safe and Sober Support Service (SSSS) is a treatment service in Alice Springs, working in a holistic and culturally appropriate way. Safe and Sober facilitates improved wellbeing for Aboriginal people experiencing the effects of harmful alcohol use.

Tribute to Dr. Chantel Thorn

Chantel was a loving soul who wanted to help others. She was passionate about her people, not only Noonghar people but all Indigenous peoples across Australia. She chose to go to
Alice Springs and work with the Indigenous peoples there and learn from their culture.

Dr. Chantel Thorn sadly passed suddenly on Saturday 17th March.

  • The former boss of the Howard Governments Intervention says the proposed extension and management of Aboriginal people in Northern Territory Aboriginal communities for another ten years is too long and that an exit strategy is needed which will allow them to to take over management of their own affairs.
  • Down to Victoria where concerns that non-indigenous people are pretending to be Aboriginal has seen plans to issue certificates of Aboriginality with a five-year expiry date.

  • The Federal Minister for Indigenous Affairs Jenny Macklin has defended the proposed Stronger Futures Legislation for Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory saying if people dont do the right thing and get their children to school welfare payments will be suspended until they do do the right thing.
  • The aunt of a man who died in police custody in Central Australia has slammed Governments Stronger Futures legislation saying there is no hope for any Aboriginal person living in the Northern Territory and that she feels Aboriginal people are considered as worthless and their culture under attack.
