A senior policy advisor with the the Northern Territory Chief Ministers Department has questioned claims that Aboriginal people previously ran local Government organisations and says most were predominantly managed by CEO’s.

Governments commitment to engage with National Congress challenged !

The  co chair of Australia’s peak  national representative body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders has  questioned the  Gillard Labor governments  commitment to engage and work  with  the  new group at the level which had been  originally intended.

The National Congress of Australia’s  First Peoples was created as a national voice to represent  the views and  aspirations of Aboriginal  and Islander peoples to government and engage in meaningful debate and discussion….but Co  chair Les Malezer says the government  hasn’t been prepared to share business. A rally in Darwin has heard that  Aboriginal people are sick and tired of being told by Government  what they  can and can’t  do and that  internationally Australia’s image has  changed into what  once used to be South Africa where apartheid was practiced

Dr Djinyini Gondara told the gathering that the government  must withdraw the proposed Stronger Futures legislation because it dehumanises Aboriginal people and continues the disaster of the Northern Territory Intervention. Continue reading

NT Country Liberals fresh approach to alcohol management !

 

The NT  Country Liberals have flagged another major  change in their approach to dealing with problem  issues in the Northern Territory …this time in the area of alcohol management and control.

While it remains unlikely that the Country Liberals will go into the next Territory election with anything other  than a tough law and order platform…the NT Shadow Minister for Indigenous Policy  ADAM GILES   has suggested that they are prepared to take a fresh look at alcohol issues and particularly those which impact on Aboriginal communities.

CAAMA RADIO’s special tribute to Uncle Jimmy LIttle.

Tributes are flowing  following the death of iconic Australian Aboriginal singer  Jimmy Little who has passed away peacefully at his home in Dubbo at the age of 75.

Born in 1937 on the Cummeragunja Mission on the NSW-Victorian border Jimmy Little  moved to Sydney  in 1955 to pursue his musical career and became a pioneer country singer. Continue reading

Australia’s fastest man over  100 meters  says the nation needs   to come together as one if   it really  wants understand  what  Aboriginal kids in remote communities are going  to do with their lives  once they become initiated.

The biggest earthquake to hit Australia in 15 years occurred near  the Pukatja community last Friday night.

The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled Judges must consider the history of Aboriginal offenders during sentencing.

What happens once they become initiated ?

Australia’s fastest man over 1oo meters says the nation needs to come together as one  if it really wants understand what Aboriginal kids in remote communities are going to do with their lives once they become initiated.

Aboriginal athlete Patrick Johnson still holds the Australasian record for the 1oo metre sprint…he now regularly travels to remote Aboriginal communities across Australia encouraging kids to stay in school and get a good education. Continue reading

Country Liberals….. are they the new Good Guys !

Territory Shadow Minister for  Indigenous policy  ADAM GILES says   the  Country Liberal Party will  remove the  Shires and  commit to greater  investment  to  the regions. He says this will  then create  job opportunities for  Aboriginal  people to remain on   country…..rather than  being forced to move  to regional centres.

Mr Giles  says he is a firm believer in employment and economic development for Aborignal people  and  that this  should underpin all social policy changes under a Country Liberal government.

A new voice for all Australians…..

The  founder of a new national political party says  it will offer  Aboriginal people a real  voice  and other  Australians an alternative to the  two major parties.

Maurie Ryan  a veteran campaigner for Aboriginal people and their rights has been a strong and ongoing critic of the  Northern Territory Intervention and  continues to voice his concerns  on the  proposed  Stronger Futures legislation.

Mr Ryan  told CAAMA  radio tha the Australian first Nations Political party will give his people a real voice for the first time……..
