Uncle Jimmy Little….

Uncle JIMMY LITTLE was a genuinely lovely soul who loomed large in Australian popular music history. The first indigenous singer to have a Top 10 hit died yesterday after a long illness, aged 75. He was a universally loved figure among Aboriginal people and in the wider Australian public.

Little was a warm and gentle person who was born at the Cummeragunja Mission outside Barmah on the banks of the Murray River. As a young man, he moved to Sydney to further his musical career. His natural, warm singing voice was perfect for the times. He was a consummate mellow balladeer who was often favourably compared to both Nat King Cole and the smooth US country crossover singer Jim Reeves. Continue reading

Country music icon, Warren H Williams has released his first language album, Winanjjara – with help from family. Winanjjara translates to mean “song man” in the Tennant Creek language of Warumungu and is an Australian album speaking of love, land and family. Continue reading

Stuart Highway Challenge in Tennant Creek

The Centralian Clontarf Academy from Centralian Senior College is travelling north to the Stuart Highway Challenge this Friday night in Tennant Creek. They will play Tenant Creek and Katherine Clontarf Academies in a round robin football tournament.

Jeanette Loves Country


Jeanette Wormald is one of a new breed of singer/songwriters who can reflect what it’s like to be Australian without having to draw upon the stereotypes which have characterised so much of this music in the past. Born in Adelaide in South Australia, then raised in the small rural community of Mount Compass, her music reflects all the elements of living on the land. The hot sun, the wide blue sky, the hard bush life and our often-unacknowledged Aboriginal heritage.
